Trains to Glasgow were full so we headed up to Edinburgh with our trusty fold up bikes to ride between the two cities. The capital is on a hill so its a joyous fizz along a brilliant network of cycleways to Newhaven. A limp egg sarnie set us on our way up the Forth Estuary. It is a stunning ride, 95% car free. Woodland, parkland and country estates, all right up to the waters edge. The low autumn light lit up the 4 bridges whilst we threaded our way below. It was flipping amazing. More stately homes, castles and beaches before we turned inland and uphill. Pedalling over the crest in the dark Grangemouth presented itself as a scene from Bladerunner, an interesting place to spend the night!
The Kelpies signalled the start of windy 30 mile pedal along the canal to Glasgow. Tarmac all the way followed by freewheeling down the river Kelvin. It was the start of COP26 and it was city swamped by police. It felt good to make the effort, to be part what has to be a huge step change…..heres hoping…….
