We cycled up the hill we had just driven down into Castleton in the North York Moors. Its a toughy and I thought it was best to get it out of the way early doors. On to the tops then a freewheel down to Saltburn. Big white horses, lots of surfers riding in.
We opted for breakfast over a dip in the North Sea then headed south. Its REALLY hilly around here. Up and down into Skinningrove, a fairly hard looking ex iron smelting village, missed the amazing beach hidden around the corner. We will return. Up and down into Staithes…and a monster climb out again. We left the main road and had a flat run along the prom into Whitby with the abbey dominating our view. The excitement of Lighthouses and fish & chips caused me to leave my bag on the pier, a frantic hour resulted in spotting it being carried away down the high street. it was returned, I offered the bloke a kiss. It was declined.
Lighthouses photographed we headed inland along the Esk then up again, high up, amazing views into the valley below. Steam trains in Glaisdale, Highland Cattle and Red Kites. A fine but knackering finish.
